I love skiing. I've been skiing since I was 14, and I'm 33 now. Every winter I ski at least 10 days, which is about three major trips and two or three day trips.
Today we went to our favorite ski shop to exchange a pair of skis that I bought last year that never worked out for me. When I was there I told the workers that I really want to ski this year but I'm pregnant. They asked me how far along I am. I told them 14 weeks. They said I should be fine to ski this year and they know plenty of women who ski while they are pregnant. They got my hopes up. DH and I began talking about a possible ski trip. I got excited.
Then, I told my mom. She yelled at me saying I'm crazy and I'll risk my baby's life. I also did research online. It is a highly debated topic. Some people say it's fine, while others say no way.
I'm going to talk to my doctor when I see him next week. I'll tell him that I will be very, very careful and stick to greens and blues. I hope he says I can go. I also hope I'm not being foolish about this. I do plan on taking it very easy if I get the green light to go.
Re: Skiing
I have personally never been skiing. But way to go Tara for trying to do something you've done for years. If your doctor gives you the green light, then I'd say go for it! By the sounds of it, you are no means a beginner and will be able to take it easy. As for your mom, I'm sure she's just worried about something really bad happening. I know my mom would be the same way.
I hope everything works out and you get to go! You for sure deserve to do something you obviously really enjoy!

Married the love of my life on 1-21-12. Our princess arrived on 5-28-13.
I totally agree. From everything I've been told - if it's something you've always done, its okay, just be careful. Definitely check with your doctor. Sorry about your mom. Mine freaked out on me painting the nursery. She was even telling me I shouldn't sleep at home for a few days afterwards.
There is a lot of conflicting information out there on what you can or shouldn't do. I don't think skiing would really be that much more dangerous than flying (for you since you are experienced). For me it would be a disaster because I've never skied before.
